Start your project right by planning ahead.
Planning your cabinetry requirements before ordering is essential for the success of your project.
Taking the time to carefully consider your storage requirements, the layout of the room, and your personal style preferences can help you avoid costly mistakes and ensure that your cabinetry is functional and aesthetically pleasing. Provence Brothers’ pre-designed cabinetry is designed with function and aesthetics at the forefront of the mind.
Here are five tips to assist with the planning process:
1. Start your planning from and around your critical areas: The layout of the room will impact the placement and configuration of your cabinetry and appliances. Consider the location of windows and doors, as well as the flow of traffic through the room. Our pre-designed options were designed for specific areas and layouts.
2. Determine your storage needs: Consider the items you need to store and how much space you require to store them. Make a list of everything you need to store, from small kitchen appliances to bulkier items like pots and pans. As you order the cabinetry check that you have sufficient storage for the items listed.
3. Choose the right materials: For some designs we’ve created a mood board with all the colours and finishes, or you can choose individual finishes and colours. This will help you select complimentary materials that fits your personal style. Select materials that are durable for high traffic areas. Laminate, vinyl and painted doors are popular finishes for cabinetry, each with its unique set of pros and cons.
4. Pay attention to details: In our pre-designs we’ve allowed for required filler panels to enable all doors and drawers to open in corners and against walls. The smallest details can make a significant difference in the overall appearance and functionality of your cabinetry. Think about features like lighting, hardware, and decorative accents that can add a touch of personality to your space.
Below are several other resources to assist with the design and planning phase.

When you start a job, you have the option in the “Room settings” to choose if you want the hardware supplied and drilled for or drilled only. If you ask for hardware to be supplied, everything needed to build the cabinets will be included. Fixings for cabinet to cabinet and cabinets to wall is excluded.
Have the ‘Job Details’ pdf from when you placed the order handy when you start. Each part will have a label with a product number and description that will match with the product number on the ‘Job Details’ pdf. This way you can sort your parts easily. We recommend that you sort all parts per cabinet number before you start assembly. Leaning them gently against a wall works well.
We will do all the drilling for the hardware you selected. If you ordered end/filler panels, kick boards or scribes oversize you will need to cut them down. Drilling and cut outs for plumbing, electrical work etc. needs to be done on site.
You can do this in a few ways. Most cabinet makers will screw them in place through the bottom of the base cabinets. You can also glue them to the legs or buy some kick clips from us. The kick clips screws to the back of the kick board and clips on to the adjustable legs.
There is no rule that says you do need to have a qualification to buy and install our cabinets. A decent amount of experience is highly recommended, since our cabinets are designed and made mostly for trade professionals.

A successful installation will bring your project to life.
Installing custom cabinetry requires precision and attention to detail. To help you achieve a successful installation, we’ve made a list of key tips to get you started on the right foot.
- Start with your critical areas first and work out from them. This will typically include appliances, corner edges, windowsills, or any other elements that are essential for the functionality of the space. By prioritizing these areas, you can ensure that they are properly aligned and integrated with the rest of the cabinetry.
- Follow a natural order when installing custom cabinetry. This typically includes fitting the carcasses to the wall and each other, followed by the application of panels, the fitting of wall and ceiling scribes, kickboards, and adjustable shelves. Lastly, fit the door and drawer fronts. This approach ensures that the installation is carried out in a logical and efficient manner, minimizing the risk of errors or complications.
- Keep the work area clean and tidy by sweeping up regularly. This simple step can make a big difference in ensuring a smooth and successful installation. It can also help to avoid damaging soft-closing drawer runners with dust or debris, especially fine cement and benchtop dust, which can affect their performance over time.
- When installing upper cabinets, use “Stan the Stands” to help support them when screwing them to the wall. This tool provides a stable and reliable support system that can help to ensure that the cabinets are level and secure.
- For a floating vanity or living room cabinet, fit a piece of 20×40 timber to the wall to rest the cabinets on and screw them in place. To ensure a neat and professional finish, stop the timber about 200mm short from the seen sides of the cabinet to ensure it is not visible.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your custom cabinetry installation is carried out with precision, attention to detail, and a focus on efficiency and effectiveness.
